Every year brings new changes to web design. Some things go out of fashion while others, vice versa, gain popularity. And it’s hardly just new stuff – a lot of it is something that used to be hip and is making a comeback!
Want to learn what main principles of Internet design there will be in 2025? Read on Fabrika Brendov’s expert piece!
Trend #1: Mobile is the way
We always have our smartphones on us, and the convenience they bring to the table is shaping the Internet. In the last couple of years the share of mobile traffic for nearly every site in existence has been constantly going – as well as showing no indication it will stop any time soon. Therefore, if in the days of yore a site would be developed for desktops first and adapted for mobiles later, nowadays the opposite is by far more common.
Trend #2: Minimalism is still hot
The times when web resources overloaded with data and graphics ruled are long gone and won’t be making a comeback for a while. The minimalistic and laconic approach to design remains the golden standard. But it is not advised to sacrifice functionality and the informational value to minimalism – the best road is the middle road.
Trend #3: Modes galore
The ability to choose the mode in which the site will be displayed is gaining traction. It comes at little surprise that most users prefer the dark mode. Seriously, does it come off as a shock that we all like browsing at night without flash-banging ourselves with white backgrounds? And also don’t forget that dark mode allows for saving the charge of the device, which is also pretty important.
Trend #4: Animations
In the veritable sea of data an average user is subject to on a daily basis, any site’s main task is keeping their attention. And what’s better to do that than small interactive or animated areas? However, it’s important not to overdo it, because you cannot allow such elements to slow down the loading speed of a given page.
Trend #5: Personalized settings
The closer the site’s content to the user’s needs, the more time said user is going to spend browsing it. Today’s tech allows analysing people’s behavior and using that data to personalize the experience according to each individual’s interests. It is hard to overestimate the importance of this ability.
Trend #6: Say no to stock photos!
Stock photos and images are easy to make out at a first glance thanks to their certain unnatural sterility. And they are just as easy to scroll through without paying them any mind.
This is why unique graphics are so hot right now. If your site has all of its images done in the same style, it’s going to go a long way.
Trend #7: Menu is back on the menu
Another popular modern design trick is to put a little menu to the lower part of the screen. You can post links to your FAQ, about us and other pages there that a user may require at any time.
Trend #8: Non-standard cursors
Unique cursors on a site have been popular for a long time, but 2025 is shaping up to be THE year for them! It’s important to note, however, that a unique cursor is at its best when it matches your site’s topic and style. Then it will be sure to be memorable and make the user experience all the more fun.
